Halloween Matching Game - How to Make It Yourself

A Halloween matching game is a great way to let the kids have some fun as Halloween approaches. There are commercial games that you can buy but it is much more fun and a lot cheaper to make one yourself. There are different types that you can make and there are also different ways that the game can be played. Outlined below are a few different types of games that you can make.

One simple way to make a Halloween matching game is to make cards where the same pictures are matched to each other. You can cut out twenty to thirty cards and make matching pairs by sticking matching Halloween stickers onto pairs of cards. Alternatively you could find pictures that you could use on the internet, print out two copies of each and glue these onto the cards.

Another simple matching game for Halloween is to make cards where a picture is matched to a word. Again make ten to fifteen pairs or more if want. One card from each pair will have a picture and the other one will have the matching word.

A different version of the Halloween matching game is to make a Halloween Riddle Matching Game. For this game you will need eight to fifteen Halloween riddles. You can search the internet for Halloween riddles and find them this way. If the kids have a joke book you might find some appropriate riddles there. Look for ones about ghosts, witches, vampires or bats.

On the matching pair of cards for each riddle write the riddle on one card and the answer on the other card. For this game it is best to use two different sized cards. Use one size for the questions and one size for the answers. This game also becomes a bit of a puzzle as the kids have to work out whether the riddle and answer match or not.

There are different ways that a Halloween matching game can be played. The game can be played by two, three or four players with the cards spread out face down. Players can take turns to turn over two cards and try to make a match. If a match is made this player has another turn and keeps the matching pair. If a match isn't made the cards are turned over again and the next player has another turn. Of course the winner will be the player with the most pairs at the end of the game.

This game can also be played in the classroom but a large group of children. You'll need enough cards so that each child in the class can be given one card. The teacher hands out the cards and the kids wait until the teacher says 'Find your partner' or the starting signal can be a Halloween themed word instead. On the starting signal the kids mingle and try to find their matching partner without making any sound. When they find their partner, they sit down together. The last pair to sit can be eliminated and the game can be played over until a winning pair - the last pair remaining - is found.

A Halloween matching game can also be played by an individual who looks at the cards and attempts to match the riddles or match the words to pictures.

This Halloween have a go at a Halloween matching game. Make your own game and let the kids match spooky characters or make the completed riddles. This is a Halloween activity that any age can play.
