Wouldn't it be great to have a homeschool preschool guide that told you how to homeschool your child? I mean a helpful resource with tips on how to make it loads of fun for him/her as well as rewarding for you.
Below are some steps to start homeschooling preschool age children:
Teach them their basic skills early on and review them regularly
Create specific areas within the home to study different subjects
Give them daily practice coloring and tracing their names, at first
Read books to them as often as possible
Spend time with them creating interesting things using various preschool materials such as paper, glue, scissors, clay, and blocks
Believe it or not it really is just that simple! I suggest that you avoid the pitfall of making it harder for you and your child!
Within your homeschool program some of the basic skills you will want to cover include:
Bible, manners, or character education
Alphabet, letter sounds, and rhyming
Number recognition, counting, shapes, and before/after numbers
Handwriting
Art and Music
Additionally, you should also cover these skills at this age:
Physical education and movement
Local community and the world
Nature and what s/he sees
Create dedicated areas within your home and inform your child exactly where the arts and crafts, reading, play, and other designated areas of interest are located. Ideally, the clean up process will be much easier when he knows where the boundaries lie as well as the exact places to put things after using them.
Spend daily time reading great books to your impressionable, preschool-aged child who is also inquisitive about many things. Observe his excitement when you call him over to spend one-on-one time with you and a favorite book.
Form memories through spending time with him creating and building things. Let him learn that if he puts together a twenty-five inch machine gun out of Legos it probably will not last during a pretend game of war!
Have fun with arts & crafts with your preschooler. Recently, I spent hours with my son simply making paper chains with colored paper. We cut, stapled, and glued strips of paper together for the sheer enjoyment of being together. Recently, we discovered the process of making lap books as another great way to do crafts and spend quality time together!
There are so many great preschool curriculums as well as free homeschool worksheets available online to help in teaching the basic skills to your preschooler. However, when you homeschool preschool age children, remember to have plenty of fun with them so that they will develop a love for learning!
You have some wonderful suggestions here, thanks! I think nothing can replace all the hands-on activities for preschoolers, but I also use an online program called Time4Learning that has worked great for my family. We've been using this for 4 years now, and they do have a preschool curriculum too. Check it out here: http://www.time4learning.com/homeschool-preschool.shtml
